During our couples getaway, we spent two nights at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa which was a real treat in many ways.
But sadly as is the case for most of these resorts there is no room for six. So rental services like AirBnB, HomeAway, etc. are your best bet for a vacation home while you roam in Tucson. Here are some ideas for rental options in the Tucson area:
Many Options at Great Rates
I watch the vacation budget like a hawk so we try not to exceed a $250 per night rate. For more insight into setting a lodging budget, visit our Traveling Large Means Lodging Large post. Major metropolitan areas at high travel season are a challenge, but usually gives you decent accommodations in a safe area.
A quick search on AirBnB for August 2020 shows 48 options for a family of six with 5 beds, 3+ bedrooms, 2+ bathrooms and SuperHost status. Searches on Vrbo and HomeAway show more than 220 options for the same criteria except SuperHost. (This makes sense since HomeAway acquired Vrbo in 2007.) All these fall within the $100-$300 per night range.
With lodging being 15-20% of our total vacation budget, selecting a great rental in the right area is critical. Finding a good spot for 5 nights in Tucson for $150-$200 is doable leaving you extra cash to spend on meals and attractions.
The Best Areas to Roam
Our stay near the Catalina Foothills was a more than pleasant surprise. The area is about 20 minutes outside downtown Tucson offering a respite from all the busyness of the city, but plenty of shopping and dining options. However, the best attractions are the views and hiking trails of the Santa Catalina Mountains.
